Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway Return to Their Signature Styling in Tokyo

The global rollout of The Devil Wears Prada 2 made its Tokyo stop this week, with fashion central to its presentation to audiences. The appearance of Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep marked one of the key moments of the press tour so far, with both actors presenting looks that referenced the original film while aligning with current runway direction.

Tokyo’s inclusion in the press circuit marks Tokyo as an important stop on the press tour, with attention focused on the wardrobe choices.

Anne Hathaway’s appearance was hard to miss for its connection to her character, Andy Sachs. She wore a strapless couture gown from Valentino’s Spring 2026 collection, featuring a structured black-and-white base with a defined bustier and a voluminous ruffled skirt. A red fold-over detail ran across the bodice, adding contrast to the monochrome foundation.

Her styling referenced Andy Sachs through the return of a fringe, updated with softer, face-framing layers. This follows the press tour’s styling approach of connecting the character to current collections without replicating past looks directly.

Meryl Streep’s wardrobe took a similar approach, drawing from the authority of Miranda Priestly while incorporating current collections. She appeared in a look from Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Pre-Fall 2026 collection designed by Matthieu Blazy. The outfit centred on a vermillion coat and coordinating midi skirt marked by white splotch patterns and finished with black fringe detailing.

Accessories included white slingback heels with black toe caps, a quilted black clutch, and oversized square sunglasses, maintaining what we already  know from her character while showing the current collection.

The Tokyo stop continues the styling direction established across the press tour. Rather than isolating individual outfits, the focus stays on how each appearance shows the same approach to character and collection, carried consistently from one city to the next.

Each appearance supports a consistent visual styling. Anne Hathaway’s looks revisit Andy Sachs through updated styling details, while Meryl Streep’s wardrobe remains rooted in Miranda Priestly’s established identity, presented through current collections and clean fits.

Gigi Hadid stepped out in New York wearing a piece from her own label, Guest in Residence, in a look that felt in line with the easy, everyday style she’s known for.

The supermodel was on her way to a Tommy Hilfiger photoshoot, wearing a tomato-red cardigan from her cashmere line, offering a practical option for the city’s spring weather.

Photo: Instagram

The cardigan, which was a part of the Guest in Residence Spring 2026 collection, came in a rich tomato-red shade. It featured slightly puffy sleeves with snug cuffs and hem. It had tortoiseshell buttons, worn partially unbuttoned at the bottom, revealing a hint of skin. She layered it over a cropped long-sleeve white top.

The model paired the bold knit with classic blue jeans in a vintage wash, held with a slim brown leather belt. Her accessories included a brown suede triangle tote and oversized sunglasses that complemented the outfit.

Hadid wore brown leather loafers from The Row, styled with white socks, matching them with her bag. Her hair, styled by Dimitri, was worn in a soft blowout with a slight C-shaped mid-length blunt cut with softly curved ends.

The outfit shows Gigi Hadid’s preference for comfort. Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar back in 2022, during the launch of her brand, the model said: “My goal in life is to look as chic or put together as possible while always being comfortable. I very rarely, even on red carpets, will wear things that I feel uncomfortable in throughout the event because I just feel like I can’t be myself as much when I’m thinking about what I’m wearing in that way.”

Following recent appearances in Tokyo for The Devil Wears Prada 2 promotional tour, Anne Hathaway attended the New York premiere of Mother Mary on April 13.
For the New York premiere she wore a custom Lever Couture gown constructed from sheer mesh ribbons. The sleeveless design featured a structured bodice, with layered ribbon detailing extending into an asymmetrical high-low skirt.
The ribbon construction shaped a structured upper bodice, while the skirt fell into tiered layers. The semi-sheer finish emphasised the gown’s layered construction.

She paired the look with jewellery from Bulgari’s Serpenti collection, including diamond and emerald pieces set in 18-karat white gold, valued at over $100,000.

Styled by Erin Walsh, and paired with metallic heels from Christian Louboutin. Her hair was worn long and loose, extending past her waist, with neutral-toned makeup.
Anne Hathaway takes on the role of a volatile pop icon in the upcoming A24 psychological thriller directed by David Lowery.
Even before its release, the project has drawn criticism, with some viewers describing its religious imagery and title as controversial, and suggesting it mocks elements of the Christian faith.
