Flip-Flops Are One of Summer 2026’s Shoe Trends
Across runway presentations, the silhouette is reinterpreted in different forms. The base design remains recognisable, but variations shift through construction, materials, heel height, and surface detailing.

One of the key reinterpretation is the heeled flip-flop. Wedge versions are presented with slim straps and minimal construction. Flat versions remain present across collections, keeping the original form in circulation while placing emphasis on material and finish.
Platform flip-flops also appear as part of the collections. These are defined by thicker soles and elevated footbeds. Some versions remain restrained in design, while others present more pronounced sole construction. Together, these variations extend the flip-flop into a broader footwear category.

Material direction is central the evolution of the shape. Leather, suede, satin, woven textures, and moulded rubber appear across different interpretations. Croc-effect finishes and handcrafted surfaces are also used in select designs.
Detailing adds variation across collections. Shell accents, metallic elements, studs, beadwork, and sequins are applied across different versions of the sandal. These treatments range from minimal placement to more visible decoration.

Color shades use neutral tones and metallic finishes. Black, white, brown, tan, beige, and metallic finishes appear throughout the collections.
Styling across runway presentations places flip-flops with dresses, tailored trousers, denim, skirts, linen pieces, and lightweight separates, moving them beyond beach and resort dressing into runway styling.
After seasons dominated by barely-there frames and ’90s minimalism, oversized sunglasses have emerged as one of the defining accessories of the Spring/Summer 2026 runway. This season, they have moved past sun protection and into a styling tool that can change the entire mood of an outfit.
From Balenciaga’s bug-eye butterfly-shaped frames, which have been spotted on celebrities like Rihanna and Rosalía, to Céline’s oversized rounded designs, the trend is heading towards bolder coverage. Chloé has introduced softer, more cinematic styles, while Fendi has explored sculptural, futuristic-inspired frames with sharper structure. With these variations appearing across major runways, here are five oversized sunglasses styles you can incorporate into your wardrobe.
Bug-Eye Sunglasses

Bug-eye sunglasses are one of the most dramatic styles seen across the Spring/Summer 2026 runways. Characterized by their oversized, butterfly-like shape, they extend from above the brow line down toward the cheekbones, creating a face-covering effect that calls attention. They work with minimal outfits because they act as the main focal point.
Round Sunglasses

In contrast, round sunglasses offer a softer take on the oversized trend. They continue to stay relevant due to their circular shape and soft structure. This style can be worn with casual summer outfits including linen sets, sundresses, or oversized shirts. They are easy to wear and remain one of the most versatile sunglasses shapes across seasons.
Square Frames

Square frames introduce structure and definition, often recognized by their sharp angles and flat, straight edges across the top of the frame. This style is commonly worn with tailored outfits like structured blazers or fitted dresses. Because of their clean shape, square frames are often seen as an easy everyday option.

Tinted sunglasses focus more on lens color than frame shape. They appear in shades like amber, brown, pink, and blue, adding a subtle pop of color without overwhelming the face. This style has been seen across runway collections including Celine and Bottega Veneta. It has also been embraced by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, who frequently steps out in amber-hued sunglasses. They go well with neutral toned outfit.
Futuristic Frames

These styles are designed to look modern and slightly unusual. Many of them have smooth, curved shapes or wide lenses that cover more of the face, sometimes looking similar to shield-style glasses. This style works best with sporty outfits, streetwear, or edgy fashion pieces.
Altogether, this season’s oversized sunglasses are less about subtlety and more about presence.
The 2026 Cannes Film Festival has come to an end, wrapping up two weeks of red carpet appearances, screenings, and celebrity moments on the French Riviera. As anticipated, the red carpet delivered a wide range of fashion looks throughout the festival.
Even with the stricter dress code implemented in 2025, which discouraged nudity and overly revealing outfits, celebrities including Daisy Edgar-Jones still incorporate sheer elements into their appearances.

Bella Hadid wore a white Schiaparelli fitted lace gown inspired by a vintage Cannes look from 1969. Taylor Russell wore a white gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline and an asymmetrical hem with side-draped detailing.
In contrast, Demi Moore wore a bright pink ball gown with a bold bow detail at the front, creating a more dramatic red carpet moment.
