Celebrities Missing the Met Gala 2026: Every Confirmed Absence
The Met Gala is here, taking place tonight, Monday, May 4, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Celebrities have already started arriving in New York and making appearances at gatherings like Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s pre-Met Gala party and Anna Wintour’s pre-Met Gala dinner. However, while many stars are expected to be present, a number of notable names have already confirmed that they will not be in attendance this year.

Zendaya is confirmed to be missing the 2026 Met Gala. Reports indicate that the actress is taking a step back from public appearances after she has been involved in professional commitments, including press tours of her movie “The Drama” and “Euphoria.” She was also involved in a campaign with Tom Holland, which included a non-alcoholic beer brand. With so many commitments in a short period, she is now taking time off before returning to work on upcoming films, including The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released in theaters later this summer.
Meryl Streep

Just like in previous years, Meryl Streep will not be attending the 2026 Met Gala. Her representative explained that the event has never really been something she is interested in, despite receiving invitations. In a statement to Page Six, her rep said, “Meryl has been invited to the Met Gala for many years but has never attended. While she appreciates Vogue, Anna, and her incredible imagination and stamina, it has never quite been her scene.”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas may also miss this year’s Met Gala due to work commitments. In a recent report by British Vogue, it was stated that the actress could be occupied with filming during the event. According to the publication, “the actress might be otherwise engaged on the first Monday in May in Antarctica, where she is currently filming Varanasi.”

Rachel Zegler will not be attending the 2026 Met Gala. She was recently asked about the event through a direct message on X (formerly Twitter), to which she responded by saying she would be working on the day of the event and would not be able to attend.

Sadie is likely to miss this year’s Met Gala also due to work commitments. Fans have noted that she is scheduled to perform in Romeo and Juliet in London’s West End this spring. A show is set to hold on the same day as the Met Gala.

Billy Porter confirmed that he will not be attending the 2026 Met Gala. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Bevelations, he was asked if he would be present at this year’s event and responded that he has not been invited, since 2019. He explained that 2019 was the only year he attended, and that appearance came after being invited by director Ryan Murphy.

Page Six reported she will be skipping the 2026 event. Lauren is the co-founder of the online luxury retailer Moda Operandi and has been a regular presence at the Met Gala since 2015 but has decided to opt out of 2026 edition.

Mayor Zohran has not confirmed whether he will attend the 2026 Met Gala. In recent years, past mayors of New York City have often made appearances at the event, but when Mamdani was asked about it, he responded that he “loves the Met” and said it’s an incredible museum.
