Kim Kardashian Brings a 1986 Thierry Mugler Gown Back into Public View
Kim Kardashian turned to fashion history for the Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Eve celebration, arriving in an authenticated 1986 Thierry Mugler gown from the designer’s Hiver Russe collection. The appearance added another chapter to her long-standing engagement with archival couture, a direction she has pursued with increasing consistency in recent years.

The metallic silver gown dates back nearly four decades and reflects Mugler’s mid-1980s approach to form, structure, and theatrical tailoring. Designed with a strapless corseted bodice, the dress narrows through the waist before extending into a fitted, floor-length silhouette. Black textured detailing outlines the bodice and hem, a signature Mugler device from that period, reinforcing contrast and shape without ornament excess.

Originally presented during Mugler’s Fall/Winter 1986 runway, Hiver Russe explored exaggerated proportions and sculpted femininity, themes that defined the designer’s influence throughout the decade. Kardashian’s choice preserved the garment’s original construction and finish, a point noted across fashion coverage that identified the look as a true archive pull rather than a reproduction or reinterpretation.
The gown appeared during the family’s annual Christmas Eve event, a setting that has increasingly doubled as an informal platform for notable fashion appearances. In recent years, Kardashian has used similar moments to debut historically significant pieces, including works by Jean Paul Gaultier, Balenciaga, and previous Mugler designs, aligning her public image with fashion preservation and archival relevance.

By wearing an original 1986 Mugler, Kardashian continues to position vintage couture as a contemporary statement, one rooted in documentation, authorship, and legacy. The appearance shows her role as a high-profile custodian of fashion history, bringing archival garments into present-day cultural conversation without altering their original intent.

Zendaya Continues Her Bridal-Themed Press Tour With a Borrowed Armani Privé Gown
Zendaya shifted away from her usual white looks at the Rome premiere of her film “The Drama.” The actress who had been on a streak of white dresses since the beginning of the press tour, chose a different look by wearing a black Giorgio Armani Privé gown previously worn by Cate Blanchett.
Styled by her longtime stylist Law Roach, the black silk dress featured a plunging neckline, embellished with dark stones, though the outfit was dark, it still carried a bridal reference.

At the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Venice International Film Festival in 2025, Cate Blanchett had worn the exact same dress. Her stylist wrote on social media, “something borrowed,” thanking Blanchett for lending it from her archive.
In recent appearances, Zendaya has been wearing archival pieces, including a white Vivienne Westwood gown from 2015 she wore on March 17, presented as “something old.” For the Paris premiere, she appeared in a white Louis Vuitton dress, as “something new.”

She also changed her hairstyle. Instead of her usual neat side-part bob, this time it looked looser, with strands across her face. She paired it with diamond earrings and rings.
During an interview with The Guardian, Law Roach explained that early in Zendaya’s career, he would often dress her in outfits that other celebrities had worn on the red carpet. He did this so she could appear in “Who Wore It Better” features and gain visibility.

Now, years later, having become widely known, that idea returns. From something old to something new and now something borrowed, her looks follow a pattern.

Zendaya Brings Something New in a White Louis Vuitton Gown
Zendaya continued her press tour for her upcoming movie, “The Drama,” appearing in another white ensemble at the Paris premiere on March 24. She wore a backless white Louis Vuitton gown designed by Nicolas Ghesquière. The floor-length gown featured long-sleeves, fitted at the waist with a sheer black bow at the back that extended down to the floor.
