Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a new instalment of the musical comedy-drama, with co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan involved in writing the script.

Eleven years after Glee concluded its six-season run, the musical comedy-drama is returning with a new series for Disney+ and Hulu. The streaming platforms announced the reboot on October 21, 2026, marking the next chapter for a show that became a defining part of television pop culture in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

The announcement follows months of discussion about the possibility of revisiting the series. In July, co-creator Ryan Murphy told People that a new generation of viewers had discovered Glee, prompting him to consider bringing it back in some form. He reflected on his affection for the original production and the possibility of introducing the story to a different generation.

By September, the idea had progressed to a script. Murphy confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that he had completed the writing with fellow co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who collaborated with him on the original series. He also revealed that he had spoken with approximately 10 former cast members about the proposed revival. According to Murphy, the conversations had been encouraging, although the actors had questions about the project. He did not identify everyone he had contacted.

The first reported casting development arrived on October 22, when Variety reported that Lea Michele would reprise her role as Rachel Berry. Michele played the ambitious performer throughout the original series, making her potential return a significant link between the reboot and the show that preceded it. Representatives for Michele and Murphy did not comment on the report.

Heather Morris, who played Brittany Pierce, and Chord Overstreet, who portrayed Sam Evans, have also shared social media posts that appear to signal their involvement. However, their participation has not been formally confirmed by Disney+ or Hulu, so their return should not yet be treated as official.

The original Glee premiered on Fox in 2009 and ran for six seasons, concluding in March 2015. Created by Murphy, Falchuk and Brennan, the series followed New Directions, a high school glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. Its members navigated friendships, relationships, identity and the pressures of adolescence through musical performances and competitions.

The show became known for its covers of popular songs and its willingness to explore subjects including sexuality, disability, race and social exclusion. Its ensemble included Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Dianna Agron, Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Matthew Morrison, Naya Rivera, Morris, Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr.

Its cultural reach extended beyond television. The series earned 32 Emmy nominations and six wins, along with nine Golden Globe nominations and four wins. Its music and performances helped establish Glee as a major entertainment property during its original run.

The reboot also returns to a series whose legacy has been shaped by the deaths of three cast members. Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, died in 2013 while the show was still airing. Mark Salling, who portrayed Noah Puckerman, died in 2018, and Rivera, who played Santana Lopez, died in 2020. Their absence remains part of the context surrounding any reunion of the original cast.

For now, details about the reboot’s storyline, production schedule and premiere date have not been announced.

Although Michele’s return has been reported by Variety, the full cast and the characters they may play have yet to be officially confirmed by the streaming platforms.

With its original creators involved and at least one familiar face reportedly returning, the new Glee has begun to take shape. Whether the series revisits the world of McKinley High or introduces a new generation of performers remains unknown. For now, the confirmed series order and progress on its script mark the clearest indication yet that the story is moving forward.

Khloé Kardashian’s ‘The Girls’ Sets Hulu Premiere Date, Drops First Trailer

Khloé Kardashian is expanding the Kardashian television universe with a new Hulu reality series centred on her closest friends rather than her famous family. “The Girls” premieres August 21, 2026, with all six episodes of the first season dropping at once. The series will also be available via the Hulu and Disney+ bundle in the U.S. and on Disney+ in select international markets.

Produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, a division of Banijay Americas, The show centres on Kardashian’s inner circle. Khloé serves as executive producer alongside Julie Pizzi, Farnaz Farjam, Nicole Blais, and Lauren Goldstein. The cast includes Natalie Halcro, Malika Haqq, Khadijah Haqq, Yris Palmer, Olivia Pierson, and Nicole Williams English, women who have appeared around the franchise for years, but who now carry the story themselves.

According to the official synopsis, “The Girls” follows the group through career launches, family decisions, girls’ trips, and the everyday work of balancing business with motherhood and marriage. The through-line is friendship, and specifically what happens when a shared connection to one person puts a group of women in the same room.

That tension is front and center in the first trailer. “The bonds I have with my girls are unbreakable,” Khloé says. “But what about their bonds with each other? It’s going to be a little cliquey without meaning to be. Just because they’re all our besties doesn’t mean they’re all best friends with each other.”

It’s a candid setup, and it distinguishes the series from the family-driven format that made “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” a decade-long fixture. Several cast members have long histories on camera. Malika and Khadijah Haqq have been close to Khloé for more than 20 years. Halcro and Pierson first appeared on “KUWTK” before pursuing their own projects. Williams English has maintained ties to the family, and Palmer entered the orbit through Kylie Jenner before building her own beauty brand.

For Hulu, the launch continues a strategy of expanding the Kardashian-Jenner brand without always putting the family at the center. For Khloé, it’s a producer credit that lets her shape the narrative around the women she’s grown up with in the industry.

“The Girls” arrives at a time when reality television is moving toward tighter casts and more specific premises. By focusing on a friend group rather than a family tree, the series tests whether that audience will follow the orbit, not just the core. With a full-season drop on August 21, viewers will get the answer all at once.
