The Standout Bags at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027

At Milan Fashion Week, handbags stepped beyond their usual supporting role for Spring/Summer 2027, with designers experimenting with scale, texture, colour and unexpected ways of carrying them. Milan’s runways featured oversized leather bags, embellished pieces and groups of miniature bags, with designers playing around with different shapes and textures.

Sportmax

Sportmax took the bags in two directions. Gathered leather styles with long cords came in white, black and vivid orange, giving them a relaxed, slightly undone look. Larger tote-duffel shapes offered a roomier option, with a more defined shape than the softer designs.

Etro

Etro’s bags came in powdery shades, cream, brown, green and burnished gold. Fringing, embellishment and paisley details appeared across the compact, soft-shaped designs, giving them the relaxed feel seen throughout the collection.

Fendi

At Fendi, Maria Grazia Chiuri gave the Baguette a more decorative treatment. Sequins, embroidery and generous fringe changed the look of the familiar shape, while longer straps gave the bags more movement. Compact versions appeared alongside softer designs, creating a collection where craftsmanship and ornament took priority.

Max Mara

Max Mara took the handbag in a larger direction. Ian Griffiths presented generous, slouchy shapes that folded naturally rather than holding a rigid structure. Deep brown, sandy neutrals and black kept the palette understated, while minimal hardware gave the oversized designs an uncomplicated finish.

Marni

Marni approached bags with a playful attitude, grouping several small leather styles together and combining different colours and finishes. Meryll Rogge also showed loose drawstring pouches, offering a simpler option alongside the layered look of multiple bags worn together.

Prada

Prada revisited its familiar bag shapes with a more defined look for the season. Flat silhouettes, sculpted forms and longer handles gave the designs a sharper finish, the refined silhouettes were paired with vivid green, red and purple, giving the collection flashes of colour against the more restrained designs.

Alberta Ferretti

A small pink pouch provided one of the quieter highlights at Alberta Ferretti. Softly folded and carried in the hand, it complemented the collection’s powdery colours and fluid shapes. Its simple shape and minimal hardware kept the bag understated, letting it complement the clothes without drawing attention away from them.

Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli leaned into the collection’s expressive side with compact pouches finished with animal-print straps, tassels and flashes of colour. The bags echoed Fausto Puglisi’s use of leopard, florals and vivid prints, keeping the accessories in step with the clothes.

Milan’s Spring/Summer 2027 bags brought plenty of personality to the runway. Familiar shapes took on new proportions, softer finishes and unexpected details, while colour and embellishment gave many of the designs a fresh feel.
