Meghan Markle is preparing to return to acting with a major project based in the U.K., nearly a decade after she left Suits. The project has not been officially announced, but Markle has reportedly been offered the role, which is said to be one of several factors behind her and Prince Harry’s decision to return to Britain with their children later this month.

The development comes as she and Harry prepare for an extended stay in the U.K. with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The family has spent the past six years living in California after relocating there in 2020 following their decision to step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family.

While details of Meghan’s new project have not been publicly disclosed, she is in talks to join the third season of Netflix’s The Gentlemen. The discussions are still at an early stage, and no contract has been finalized. The series’ second season is scheduled to premiere on September 3, while a third season is expected to be announced soon, although Netflix has not yet formally confirmed it. Although, Meghan’s role is still being written, so it is not yet clear how many episodes she would appear in.

The series, created by Guy Ritchie as a television spin-off of his 2019 film of the same name, is filmed in the U.K. and set in England. It follows Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, after he unexpectedly inherits his family’s estate and discovers that it is connected to a large cannabis operation. The current cast includes James, Kaya Scodelario and Giancarlo Esposito.

The role would mark Meghan’s most significant acting project since she left Suits. She played Rachel Zane on the legal drama and filmed her final episodes in late 2017, ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. At the time, she said she was leaving acting to begin a new chapter.

Meghan returned to the screen in 2025, filming a cameo as herself in Amazon MGM’s Close Personal Friends, alongside Lily Collins and Jack Quaid. In 2025, She was first photographed on the Pasadena set in November 2025. And a source described her as relaxed and happy while filming, adding that she introduced herself to those on set and was friendly with the crew.

The appearance followed Meghan’s 2022 comments that she was “done” with acting.

Meghan also has an established relationship with Netflix. She and Harry signed a deal with the streamer in 2020 through their production company, Archewell Productions, covering documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted programming and children’s content. In 2025, the couple announced an extension of their creative partnership through a multi-year first-look agreement covering film and television projects.

Their work with Netflix has included the 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan, which became one of the platform’s most-watched documentary debuts, as well as Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus and Polo. Meghan also fronted the lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, which ran for two seasons and included a holiday episode.

The development comes alongside the Sussexes’ plans to establish a longer-term base in Britain. The family is expected to return to the U.K. later this month, with Archie and Lilibet enrolled in school there from September. The move is not understood to be permanent. Meghan and Harry will retain their Montecito, California, home, while Meghan’s businesses and projects, including As Ever, Archewell Productions and Archewell Philanthropies, will continue to operate from the United States.

Harry is also expected to maintain his charitable commitments on both sides of the Atlantic, including preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Meghan’s acting opportunity, Harry’s commitments and the children’s education all helped determine the timing of the family’s return.

The move will give Harry and Meghan their first base in Britain since they gave up the lease on Frogmore Cottage in 2023. The Windsor property had been made available to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II, and Harry’s father, King Charles, subsequently asked them to leave following the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare.

King Charles was informed of the family’s plans on August 16, and is understood to welcome the opportunity to spend more private time with his son and grandchildren. Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet visited Britain in July, when the children reunited with their grandfather for the first time in more than four years. Their visit included tea at Highgrove House and a trip to Althorp House, where Princess Diana spent much of her childhood and was buried. The family is believed to have paid their respects at Diana’s gravesite during the visit.
