Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson Reunite in ‘Brothers’ Trailer, Giving Fans Exactly What They Wanted

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are bringing their real-life friendship into the new comedy series Brothers, and the trailer is hinting at the question fans have wondered about for years: could the two friends actually be brothers?

Apple TV released the first trailer for the series on August 25, portraying the longtime friends as fictionalized versions of themselves. The trailer opens with McConaughey banging his chest in front of a mirror while Harrelson takes deep breaths with his hands on his temples.

As the trailer unfolds, the long-running question of whether the two friends could actually be related becomes the source of chaos after Harrelson’s daughter’s engagement falls apart, prompting him to take his family to McConaughey’s Austin ranch for an extended stay. Things get more complicated when McConaughey’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, reveals a decades-old secret suggesting the two friends could actually be half-brothers.

McConaughey and Harrelson have spoken publicly about the possibility that they could share a biological father. Harrelson previously told Esquire magazine that there’s a lot of coincidences surrounding their families, including the fact that “his mother had a relationship with McConaughey’s father around the time McConaughey was conceived.” Although, the two have never taken a DNA test to confirm whether they are related.

Brothers also marks another on-screen reunion for the pair, who previously starred together in the first season of HBO’s True Detective in 2014. They also appeared in EDtv and Surfer, Dude.

The eight-episode comedy series comes from showrunner and executive producer Lee Eisenberg, with McConaughey and Harrelson also serving as executive producers. Other cast includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and Holland Taylor.

Brothers will premiere with two episodes on September 23 on Apple TV, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through November 4.
