Kim Kardashian Says She Wasn’t Ready to Open Up Before Lewis Hamilton
Kim Kardashian says she spent years away from serious relationships because she needed time to heal, focus on her children and work on herself before she was ready to open up again.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times’ Style Magazine, the SKIMS co-founder reflected on the five-year period she spent largely single following the end of her marriage to Kanye West. Kardashian, 45, said she did not feel pressured to find another partner and was comfortable using that time to focus on other parts of her life.
“I was really single for five years,” Kardashian said. “And that felt great. I could focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with.”
She said the period did not leave her feeling as though something was missing. Instead, she felt she needed the time for herself.

“I really felt no rush. Like, I really didn’t feel empty,” she said. “I felt like I needed my time. I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn’t ready to open up. I really wasn’t even thinking about it.”
Kardashian added that she had come to accept the pace of her personal life rather than trying to force another relationship. “The universe works in your favor when you just allow it to,” she said.
Her comments come as she is now in a relationship with Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton. The relationship was confirmed in April 2026.
The relationship has since included several public appearances and trips. Kardashian travelled with Hamilton and her four children in Tokyo, supported him at the Monaco Grand Prix and was later seen with him in London. Most recently, the couple attended the opening night of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles on September 19, where they were photographed kissing.
Despite the increased public attention surrounding their relationship, Kardashian remains careful about discussing Hamilton directly. When The Sunday Times’ Style Magazine asked her about the relationship, she declined to elaborate, saying, “In the most respectful way, I’d probably rather not.”
Before Hamilton, Kardashian’s most recent high-profile relationship was with comedian Pete Davidson. The pair dated for nine months before splitting in August 2022. Kardashian had filed for divorce from West in 2021, and she and West share four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm.

Kardashian has also previously spoken about the difficulty of accepting the end of her marriage. During the sixth season of The Kardashians, she reflected on the circumstances surrounding her divorce after her sister Khloé Kardashian discussed her own former marriage to Lamar Odom.
Kim said that ending a marriage can be particularly difficult when it is not something a person had planned for and circumstances change the relationship. She described the experience as harder when someone does not want the marriage to end for personal reasons but feels there is no other option.
Her latest comments offer a clearer picture of what followed that period. Rather than immediately looking for another serious relationship, Kardashian said she spent those years concentrating on her children, her professional projects and her own recovery.
Now, with Hamilton, Kardashian is in a relationship that has received public attention, although she has made it clear that she intends to keep much of the relationship private.
