Dua Lipa Files $15 Million Lawsuit Against Samsung
Dua Lipa is reportedly pursuing a $15 million claim against Samsung Electronics, alleging that her copyrighted image was used on television packaging without her consent. She alleges that it created the impression she was endorsing the products, even though she never agreed to it.
The case, filed last Friday at the U.S. District Court for Central California, centers on a photo called “Dua Lipa Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024.” According to Lipa, she owns the rights to this image, but Samsung put it front and center on their TV packaging all over the U.S. throughout 2025.

Her legal team argues the matter goes beyond copyright infringement, claiming it also breaches trademark protections and California’s right of publicity law . The lawsuit says Lipa only discovered her image on the packaging in June 2025 and immediately told Samsung to stop using her likeness.
Samsung’s response was described as “dismissive and callous,” and the packaging remained on shelves. Screenshots of social media posts included in the complaint suggest some consumers were influenced to buy the TVs because of Lipa’s image.
Samsung said the image was provided by a third-party partner for its free streaming service and that it was used only after receiving “explicit assurance” that permission had been secured, including for retail boxes. The company added it is open to a constructive resolution with Lipa’s team.

Lipa’s lawyers argue the alleged unauthorized use has diluted her brand identity and commercial goodwill by falsely suggesting she approves of the products. The filing seeks at least $15 million in damages, along with a permanent injunction and coverage of legal fees.
Lipa is known for being selective with brand partnerships, having worked with Apple, Porsche, Versace, and Nespresso. Her legal team says she would not have consented to this use. Neither Lipa’s representatives nor Samsung have commented further beyond the court filings.
