Hailey Bieber has spoken about her challenges with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). The model said she experienced symptoms after becoming a mother.

In an interview with Women’s Wear Daily on October 30, 2026, Hailey explained that her experience with motherhood opened her eyes about the problems women face during pregnancy and childbirth.

While discussing her experience with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), Bieber explained that she struggled with the condition after giving birth to her son.

“After I had my son, I struggled with that a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,”

In March 2026, Hailey was on the SHE MD podcast, where she revealed that she was diagnosed with PMDD approximately six months after giving birth.

“I was like, ‘This just feels way more intense than before,’ like, the lead-up to getting your period, You’re like, ‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is gonna end? Like, I don’t understand.’ You just have all these swirling thoughts and feelings, and just everything feels like the biggest deal in the world.”

PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome that can cause emotional and physical symptoms before menstruation. Although PMS and PMDD share some symptoms, PMDD is more severe. It also differs from postpartum depression, which is a separate condition.

Hailey believes women should have more opportunities to discuss their health challenges freely.

“Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she told Women’s Wear Daily. She explained that hearing from people with similar experiences can make difficult situations easier to navigate.

Her interest in women’s health also comes from seeing people close to her deal with different conditions.

“I feel really drawn to women’s health. I have a sister who struggles with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). I have lots of friends that struggle with it, with endometriosis, with a lot of different, very specific women’s health issues. As a woman, I feel frustrated by the lack of research, the lack of awareness, the lack of certain conversation around it.”

“Especially after having my own child. That was just a really intense and special journey that I had. There’s so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so many things that happen leading up to having a child.”

Her comments coincide with a new initiative from Rhode, her beauty brand. The company announced a $5 million, three-year partnership with the Foundation for Women’s Health to support medical research, education and care.

The funding will target areas that have historically received limited attention, including pregnancy, postpartum health and autoimmune conditions. The fund will be called the Women’s Health Investment Fund. It will invest in companies developing diagnostic tools and treatments for women’s health conditions. Proceeds generated by the fund will be reinvested to support future research and innovation in women’s healthcare.
