Flip-Flops Are One of Summer 2026’s Shoe Trends

Across runway presentations, the silhouette is reinterpreted in different forms. The base design remains recognisable, but variations shift through construction, materials, heel height, and surface detailing.

One of the key reinterpretation is the heeled flip-flop. Wedge versions are presented with slim straps and minimal construction. Flat versions remain present across collections, keeping the original form in circulation while placing emphasis on material and finish.

Platform flip-flops also appear as part of the collections. These are defined by thicker soles and elevated footbeds. Some versions remain restrained in design, while others present more pronounced sole construction. Together, these variations extend the flip-flop into a broader footwear category.

Material direction is central the evolution of the shape. Leather, suede, satin, woven textures, and moulded rubber appear across different interpretations. Croc-effect finishes and handcrafted surfaces are also used in select designs.

Detailing adds variation across collections. Shell accents, metallic elements, studs, beadwork, and sequins are applied across different versions of the sandal. These treatments range from minimal placement to more visible decoration.

Color shades use neutral tones and metallic finishes. Black, white, brown, tan, beige, and metallic finishes appear throughout the collections.

Styling across runway presentations places flip-flops with dresses, tailored trousers, denim, skirts, linen pieces, and lightweight separates, moving them beyond beach and resort dressing into runway styling.
